What began as a farmers’ market favourite has grown into a cozy café in Owen Sound and now a second home in Sauble Beach.
First establishing ourselves as a farmers market staple, we opened our first café in Owen Sound, and quickly became established as a place to eat and visit in Owen Sound.
We are proud and excited to announce that we are spreading our wings and opening a second location in beautiful Sauble Beach.
On the shores of Lake Huron Café Gilou brings the taste of Brittany, with Café Gilou at The Sands Hotel, a French style creperie, with an outdoor patio, and an all new rooftop experience at Café Gilou on the Roof.
This new location brings you the same great food, with the addition of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as take out options. Upstairs, beginning the first long weekend of the summer we will be opening Café Gilou on the Roof. With a view of the beach unrivalled anywhere, we will be offering an all new BBQ menu plus a fresh Seafood, a la plancha menu.
During the colder months, this region is famous for our hours are reduced. For Dec 2025 we are now taking reservations for private parties for groups of 8-20 guests. We have created unique 3 course menu options, which you can view below.

At the heart of Café Gilou is the galette, a savoury buckwheat crêpe made in the traditional style of Brittany, France.
Built on simple, quality ingredients, each galette is filled with a variety of savoury combinations. The buckwheat batter is prepared in the classic way and cooked until delicately thin with a gentle crispness at the edges.
The result is food that feels both comforting and special, with flavours that reflect the regions and traditions that inspire Gilles and Melissa.
